- General Teacher Plans for Marlane Fitzgerald, Music
- 2019 -2020 School Year
- At Highland I teach in room 30. I am at Doolittle School on C days only from 8:45 till approximately 10:30. I teach in the band room at Doolittle. Notice that the start times are different for the two Doolittle classes. At Doolittle I use the band room. At Doolittle you may use the ‘Smart board’ board to display any videos you might show. When showing videos at Highland in room 30 you must have the Smart board on to get sound from the stereo. The stereo is in the long cabinet to the right of the ukulele storage area. There is a diagram of the controls for the stereo receiver taped to the cabinet door. Volume control should be set anywhere from 31 - 39 or so.
Students in grades 4 - 6 sign out to use the bathroom. Grade K assistant teachers take those students to the bathroom. Grade 2 students use the bathroom one girl and boy at a time. Grade 1 students may not know the way yet; they can have a classmate show them.

Tell students that this is a piece that was written by Modest Mussorgsky, a Russian composer who lived from 1839 - 1881. Mussorgsky visited a museum where he saw on display several paintings, ten in all, which were created by a friend of his. He was inspired to write this piece which described each of the ten paintings; six additional sections of music known as the “Promenade Theme” describe how Mussorgsky felt as he walked from one painting to another.
Let students hear the “Promenade Theme” by copying and pasting this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1GwvPzzK1k
Stop at the end of each section of the section of the piece. Ask students what picture is described by the music.
They may also play “Closet Key” and “Sailor, Sailor”. They may practice any songs from the recorder book.
Fire Drill: Turn off lights and shut classroom doors after all students are out the door..
At Doolittle and Highland, students leave the building via the nearest exit. Take your student rosters with you. Red folder containing rosters for my classes are hanging on the wall to your right by the doorway as you look out the door at the hallway. Check off the students who are present during the drill. Make sure students are quiet on the way out and on the way back into the building. At Highland a teacher will collect the student attendance rosters as classes wait outside the building.
Lock down Procedures: Lights off, shades down and door locked until drill is over.
For the lock down drill at Highland students need to sit quietly on the floor away from the door until the drill is completed. Take your student rosters with you. Check off the students who are present during the drill. Make sure that the door is locked and lights are off for this drill. Also make sure blinds are down if applicable. Custodians and administrators will be checking the doors and rooms to make sure everyone is complying with the requirements. Further instructions are for all emergency procedures at Doolittle are below. Highland emergency procedures are in red folder hanging on the wall near the doorway.
SAFETY/EMERGENCY PROCEDURES AT DOOLITTLE SCHOOL
FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES
- As soon as the alarm sounds, the teacher should go to the classroom door, see that the exit is clear, and wait until all children are out of the room.
- Children should immediately leave the room in single file, walking quickly but not running.
- There should be no talking or fooling so that everyone may concentrate on getting outside as soon as possible and everyone can hear any instructions or directions.
- Teachers make sure that windows and doors are closed.
- Teachers take their class list or grade book with them to account for all students. An extra Class List for subs should be available in the Substitute Binder.
- Teachers nearest the lavatories check to see that all children are out.
- Students who are not in their classroom should leave by the nearest exit and join the nearest adult. (Teachers make sure that students understand this procedure)
- Designated Teachers at each area will have walkie-talkies. Classroom teachers will report to the Designated Teacher any missing, extra, or absent students.
- Designated Teachers with walkie-talkies wait to be contacted by office staff. The Designated Teachers with walkie-talkies report any missing, extra, and absent students to office staff.
- Office staff will match up missing, extra, and absent students to account for all children.
- If a walkie-talkie is not working or available, the Designated Teacher makes a list of missing, extra, and absent students and brings it to office staff at the front of the building. Designated Teachers should keep their walkie-talkies with them when in the building and report to their section whenever there is a fire drill.
- No child or staff member should go back into the building until notified that it is safe to do so. Teachers with walkie-talkies will report to staff in their area when to enter the building again.
- To ensure that all staff members are accounted for, staff in each area should let the Designated Teacher know if one of their team members is not outside.
- In the event of inclement weather or snow accumulation, teachers may need to use their judgment as to where to take their classes once outside. Everyone should be a minimum 100 feet from the building. If we can NOT reenter the building we will go to Legionarries of Christ building at 475 Oak Ave, Cheshire, CT 06410
- If a teacher sounded the alarm s/he should report to the office the location and apparent intensity of the fire.
